Lost & Found Hero

As a Lost & Found hero, you will make the rounds to the major theme camps to collect items lost at the camp and bring them to the Lost & Found. Along the way, you should feel confident proclaiming good LNT practices, picking up any MOOP you encounter, and encouraging other Fireflies to do the same. Also spread the word about the location of the Lost & Found -- it is your mission to ensure all that Lost Things are Found! And if you see any labeled items feel free to try to return them to their owners!

To start your shift, come to MOMM (aka the Museum of Modern MOOP, aka the event Lost & Found), which is just up the path from the upper parking portos. If there isn't an LNT lead there at the time, you'll find instructions, a volunteer shift sign-in book, and instructions for whom to contact with any questions. Your main tasks are described below.

Shifts are 2-4 pm Wednesday through Saturday and 9-11 am on Sunday (Exodus).

Tidy up MOMM

Make her look good: straighten crooked labels, pick up fallen items, rearrange items artistically, make space for new arrivals, etc.

Collect Lost & Found items from theme camps

Starting at MOMM, grab an orange pumpkin bag and walk around to camps and collect Lost & Found items. These are most likely to be in bigger theme camps (so make sure to go there), but anywhere is fair game. Then return to MOMM by the end of your shift and deposit any items you collected during your walk. Ideally, any camps hosting events (especially the large sound camps) should have a process for identifying Lost & Found items and either bringing them to MOMM or having them ready for you to collect. If they're unprepared, let them know someone will be around again tomorrow at the same time!

Collect trash-MOOP

Before setting off on your rounds, please also grab a ziplock baggie to collect any trash you find along the way. There will be a secret trash receptacle behind MOMM (only for trash collected by LNT volunteers during their shifts, so please don't tell others it's here).

Lost & Found Barker & Breakdown

Remind passersby to check the Lost & Found for any missing items during Exodus! Also help to organize and pack up unclaimed items and break down the Lost & Found infrastructure to get handed off to DPW for storage.

This shift is 11 am-1 pm on Sunday (Exodus).

Field Sweep Crew

On the final day of the event, volunteers will gather to do a line sweep of the Bug Burn Field. This shift involves picking up pieces of MOOP (matter out of place) from the field. You will be provided with a bag for MOOP that you find and it will be collected at the end of the shift.

Be prepared for the elements, as it can be hot and sunny, or cool, rainy, and muddy. Hats and umbrellas (as well as sunscreen) are a good idea to protect against the sun.

Meet at the top of the bug field, near where the coffee table is during the event.

This shift is 2:30-4:30 pm on Sunday (Exodus). Be sure to coordinate with your own camp to ensure you can meet your obligations both to camp breakdown and to the field sweep.

LNT Land Sweep Crew

This is LNT's late crew shift, and it is, first off, awesome.  You will be heralded as a champion, included in the Lore of Future Fireflies...or at the very least loved by your campmates. Land sweep volunteers stay an extra day on the land to conduct a Firefly-wide MOOP sweep.  We sing, we are merry, we work hard, and we go home tired but laughing. Generally LNT land sweep is finished by 2 or 3 pm. Note that this is a full-day LNT late crew shift that takes place the day after exodus (Monday).

Sunday Logistics

Tents: As a member of late crew, you will be camping on the land an additional night, so you can leave your tent wherever it is from Sunday night through Monday morning at 8 am. We suggest that you pack up as much of your (non-essential) stuff as possible before Monday morning. You must break down your camp and stow all your belongings in a vehicle before 8 am on Monday morning. (Otherwise sweepers will think your gear is MOOP.)

Cars: No cars should be left in Lower Parking after Sunday night. Once Exodus for the event is complete on Sunday, please move your car to Upper Parking if you do not have a 4-wheel drive or all-wheel drive vehicle. If you do have 4-wheel or all-wheel drive, you may drive your vehicle up the road and park it near your tent (off of the main road/path but be mindful of vegetation.)

Dinner: LNT potluck (location TBD). Please bring food to share if you have it!

Monday Logistics

Morning meeting: We will meet at 8 am (location TBD) for breakfast and LNT land sweep overview/instructions. Note that all your belongings must be in a vehicle before the start of this meeting.

Lunch: Lunch is provided and will likely be pizza. If you have dietary needs, please let us know in advance.

Ending: We generally finish up around 3 pm. There is often an opportunity to help out with DPW breakdown tasks afterwards if you have energy left, but this is entirely optional.

Field Sweep Leader (Exodus or Late Crew)

Aka herder of cats: Wrangle a bunch of us into a straight-ish line and lead us across a field looking for shiny things in the grass. Weirdly meditative, and also a lot like the game "Red Light Green Light." Prior field sweep experience is helpful but not required, and an LNT core lead will be there to help out as well. We sweep the bug field in the afternoon of exodus day, and the parking lots the following day during land sweep/late crew.

Shift timing aligns with the regular field sweep crew and land sweep crew shifts.
