Respond quickly to questions in email and do the thing where you are an information clearinghouse. You will receive questions which need to be answered by somebody who is not you. Your job will be to figure out who needs to answer that question, and forward the email to them.

Art Cluster Lead Responsibilities

Art Cluster Leads oversee our Art Cores to keep the Arts in Firefly Arts Collective!

  • Proactively identify and solve problems to ensure each core is successful
  • Assist with planning and admin of the various core roles
  • Attend biweekly Festcomm meetings January-July (remote)
  • Set budgets by soliciting budget information from the core roles and keeping them up to date
  • Help the cores in core fill roles and volunteers

Who makes a good Art Cluster Lead?

Location

Can be done from anywhere - most responsibilities are online. Some meetings are in-person but can be attended remotely.

Schedule

Biweekly meetings throughout Planning Season (January-July).

During art grant season (February - April), pay attention to what art grants are up to and lend assistance as needed.

As the event approaches, keep close track of what each cores is up to via email check-ins, which increase in frequency circa mid-May. Report core status at each Festcomm meeting.

Experience

Firefly experience is critical for understanding how each art core fits into the overall event. Knowing key individuals on Festcomm makes solving problems possible, though this can be learned on the job.

Skills

Respond to email. Know who can answer questions or how to ask and pass information requests on quickly to the people who can answer them.

Be patient with people who are doing their best in a world which is on fire. Especially as they are contributing volunteer time during the year to make an event happen.

Help core leads help themselves without getting overinvolved and trying to micromanage all of the different cores.

Advocate for the needs of your cores while maintaining a healthy level of detachment and acceptance. Work productively with people even when you disagree with them.

Timeline

Grant Season (January - April)

The Art Cluster Lead's job is to make certain that grants (and other cores) have what they need, so responsibilities in this time period involve hanging out in the discord channel and occasionally responding to questions.

Budget Season (February - March)

Between February and mid-March, you will collect the budgets from the art cluster, and submit them by March 15.

Space Madness Season (Mid-May through June)

Regularly email art core leads to get status updates and check to see if they have any needs. The frequency of this will increase as we approach the event.

Respond quickly to questions in email and do the thing where you are an information clearinghouse. You will receive questions which need to be answered by somebody who is not you. Your job will be to figure out who needs to answer that question, and forward the email to them.
